SUPIMA IN THE NEWS: Design Competition in The Philadelphia Inquirer
By Greg Wang
PHILADELPHIA—Supima may have held all three finals of its Design Competition in New York but it’s definitely getting noticed elsewhere.
Earlier this week, in a story titled “MIRROR, MIRROR: HOW PHILADELPHIA MIGHT FOSTER ITS DESIGNERS,” The Philadelphia Inquirer’s fashion columnist Elizabeth Wellington cited the Supima Competition in her article about how emerging designers can get started in the industry.
Here’s some of what she said:
Gina DeSilva is grateful for the opportunity. The twentysomething Brooklynite with Philadelphia relatives just won Best of Show in the prestigious national Supima Design Contest, and she’s eager to get her collection of deep-shaded classic dresses with architectural details onto sales floors.
“This is an education for me,” DeSilva said. “When you have a lot of experience in design and very little experience in retail, this kind of help is priceless.”
