SUPIMA IN THE BLOGOSPHERE: Meet Enza Costa
By Greg Wang

LOS ANGELES—Known for luxe, low-key use of the best-of-the-best fibers and fabrics, Canadian-born, Italian-inspired, L.A.-based designer Enza Costa started Rogue, her line of understated tops, with silk jersey and cashmere.
Then she added Supima to the line-up.
Now her Supima designs are becoming a staple at boutiques like Intermix and Merge, her tees are featured on celebs like Kristen Bell and Jennifer Lopez, and she’s being featured in places like Paper Magazine’s well-read fashion blog.
Earlier this year, in a Q&A with Paper’s Zandile Blay, here’s how she explained Rogue:
The clothes are beautiful—what is your design philosophy in general?
The guiding principle is the female form. In general, silhouettes; a dance of seduction with how we wear our clothes, complimenting women’s beauty and enhancing physical attributes. An outer layer of an inner expression bringing to the fore front the power and potency of the woman, healing deep insecure places.
What is the design process like for you?
The process for me is like being in the space between thoughts—being led by creation coming into fruition.
What inspired you to launch this line?
My father, who passed away five years ago. I realized at that time how short life is. He taught me from example to live my passion.
Describe the Enza Costa woman.
An individual, timeless, classic, sexy, confident, of unique beauty. She is sophisticated, understands quality and chooses clothes that fit her life.
In your mind, what is the ideal setting for wearing these clothes?
I design blank canvases to be interpreted by the women wearing it for any setting or backdrop.
I absolutely love your name, where is it from?
Enza means descendant of an ancient city in Italy. Costa means coast in Italian.
What is your background?
I am of Italian descent—both my parents are Italian. I am first generation Canadian. I grew up in Toronto. Lived and Studied in Florence. Found home four blocks from the ocean in Venice, California.
Prior to Enza Costa, were you in fashion?
At an early age I chose fashion as my medium of artistic expression. I came to L.A. because of an opportunity to start a T-shirt line called L.A. Made. A year later I started my own young contemporary dress line that grossed one million in its first season. After two years and life altering events I developed Enza Costa ROGUE.
