MORE ABOUT THE SUPIMA DESIGN COMPETITION
By Nancy Boyd
NEW YORK—As you probably already know, the live runway finale of the 2011 Supima Design Competition is set to start at 1 p.m. on September 8 in the Studio space at Lincoln Center, kicking off the Spring 2012 edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
During the show, eight recent graduates of America’s most prestigious design schools—two apiece from Pratt, the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the Rhode Island School of Design—will present capsule collections of women’s evening wear using top Supima fabrics.
What’s more, courtesy of Supima, the young designers will be given the chance to collaborate with the industry’s top talents: M.A.C. for makeup and L’Oréal Professional for hair.
Leading the L’Oréal team will be celebrity stylist Ron King (that’s him at right), who’s worked with Mariska Hargitay, Katy Perry, Luke Perry, Lance Armstrong, and a “who’s who” list of other bold face names.
