MEET THE DESIGNER: Robin Tomas
By Greg Wang
This is who he is . . .
Currently New York-based, 33-year-old Filipino designer Robin Tomas graduated from Parsons in 2002 and has been a menswear designer for major labels including Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, and J. Crew. He recently launched Tomas, a 45-piece collection (that’s part of it in the slideshow seen above) that concentrates on women’s wear, and has shown on runways in Manila.
Here’s his background . . .
Work as a menswear designer at Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, and J. Crew.
2002 graduate, Parsons School of Design.
Internships at Valentino and Anna Sui.
And he was also . . .
The first student designer to participate in Filipino Fashion Week.
What he has to say about fashion design . . .
“Fashion is a great mix of entities: fantasy and practical reality; past periods
and the unchartered path of what’s to come; abstract art and technical
constants. I see fashion not just as garment being worn, but attitudes enhanced.”
What he has to say about Supima . . .
“Never have I worked with cotton with such great hand feel, performance, and sense of luxury!”
