MEET THE DESIGNER: MaRu Jung
A native of Seoul, South Korea, 23-year-old MaRu Jung graduated from the Pratt Institute this year with a BFA in Fashion Design and the goal of winning a job as an assistant designer of women’s sportswear—with an eye toward eventually launching her own label.
In her capsule collection for the 2011 Supima Design Competition, she adds depth and volume to traditional, printed artworks that she considers “too beautiful to stay in two dimensions, so I wanted to reveal them in a three-dimensional way . . . interrupting their organized and planned layout with irregular and unexpected parts.”
At Pratt, her faculty mentor for the Supima Design Competition was Karin Yngvesdotter.

See her capsule collection at 1 p.m. on September 8, when she shows as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Lincoln Center.
