MEET THE DESIGNER: Lorena Cuevas Restrepo
By CeCe Shelburne
A native of Bogota, Colombia, 23-year-old Lorena Cuevas Restrepo received her first formal training in fashion design when she attended Central St. Martin’s as a teenager.
Since then, she has won a mentorship from designer Rachel Roy, showcased her work at Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta, and been featured in a photo shoot for Jezebel magazine.
The 2011 BFA graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design describes her aesthetic as “minimalist with organic, feminine shapes,” and says that, in her collection for the 2011 Supima Design Competition, “gentle hues of blush and gray with incursions of acid green and red intimate the idea of speed as fashion’s future races toward reduction.”
At SCAD, her faculty mentor for the Supima Design Competition was Jason Bunin.
See her capsule collection at 1 p.m. on September 8, when she shows as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Lincoln Center.
