MEET THE DESIGNER: Amy Lynn Bittner
By CeCe Shelburne
Evansville, Indiana native Amy Lynn Bittner started sewing at age 10 and spent her teenage years doing costume design.
At the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she graduated this year with a BFA in Fashion Design, the 23-year-old studied corsetry, haute couture sewing techniques and embellishments, and spent a year abroad at Polimoda, in Florence.
A specialist in Intimate Apparel, whose multiple design honors range from Videofashion Daily’s “Best in Boudoir” Award to First Place in Lululemon’s Urban Yogini Competition (see video below), Bittner says her designs exhibit “my love of hand embellishments and attention to detail. These time-consuming techniques have become somewhat of a statement in my work.”
At FIT, her faculty mentors for the Supima Design Competition were Lisa Donofrio and Reuben Cruz.
See her capsule collection at 1 p.m. on September 8, when she shows as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Lincoln Center.
