CELEBRATING COTTON DAY: Yogesh Chaudhary’s Supima installation
NEW DELHI—The Cotton Council International celebrated “Cotton Day” here last week with festivities that included an appearance by top Bollywood star Zarine Khan and a full-on fashion show.

But the standout of the celebrations was Supima.

The event opened with a photography exhibit entitled “Magic of Cotton” which captured how cotton is transformed to meet every need and occasion. “Common Thread,” a film by director Mihir Desai, reflected on how cotton connects the world, crossing boundaries and cultures.

Then longtime Supima licensee Arvind staged a fashion show featuring fabrics from its latest denim collection. And the evening closed with another fashion show from designer Rina Dhaka exhibiting how cotton allows her to execute a variety of design techniques.

Supima was showcased in an art installation by Yogesh Chaudhary. Yogesh visualized cotton in four characteristics: Fit, Fall, Flow and Frame. Fine Supima cottons were used to demonstrate cotton’s versatility through a variety of high grade finishes. Yogesh Chaudhary has been awarded the 2010 Montana Supreme World of Wearable Art Award and the Van Heusen Emerging Designer of the year.
